S.M.A.R.T. Yard Installation in Refugee Camp on 16.7.2020

On Thursday 16.7.2020 the Let's be SMART Team together with our global volunteers visited the refugee camp in the Attika region, where we organized our educational event about animals for refugee children in February 2020. As we promised within our last visit, we came back to install our S.M.A.R.T. Yard at the premises of the camp in order to help the local refugee community manage better the number of strays (mostly cats) living in the camp area.

Our Team installed a brand new solid wooden outdoor rated cat/dog house (labeled with the S.M.A.R.T. Yard logo) with bowls for food & water and a supply of the Brit pet food from our food partner KTENAS group. Our Team explained about the purpose and benefits of having the S.M.A.R.T. Yard and also showed to the children and adults how to utilize the wood cat/dog house and supplies. We also explained how very important is to keep the wooden cat/dog house and surrounding area clean and neat and in this respect handed over also supplies of the hand sanitizers, hand wash liquids and towels.

We were very pleased to see the children were interested in learning about taking care of the strays and how to operate the S.M.A.R.T. Yard. The kids also loved pizza and cupcakes we brought and they loved to interact with our Team and volunteers! We very much appreciate the willingness of the leaders at the refugee community to have our S.M.A.R.T. Yard installed and their overall involvement. The children will remain actively involved as well as each day one child will be given a chore to help with the food and water!

Our Let's be S.M.A.R.T. organization will coordinate with one of our collaborating S.M.A.R.T. Vets to sterilize some of the cats living in the refugee camp.
