Clifford (2015), Male
Hi, my name is Clifford. I’m a male dog, and I arrived at the shelter on 08/11/25. I was found abandoned on the beach in Varkiza, with an injury on my nose. The founder of LBS organisation was walking to a beach taverna to get her lunch when she saw me there, alone and hurt. Thanks to her, I didn’t stay abandoned for long.
I don’t have any known medical history from before I arrived, but since coming into care, I’ve been closely looked after.
I tested positive for Erlichia in November 2025, and I underwent treatment. I also have inflammation in both ears, which is currently being treated with special ear ampules. A biopsy was taken from my nose, and the results showed that I have an autoimmune disease for which I am receiving treatment. Both my ears and nose are affected by this autoimmune disease, and I am being medicated for both.
I was neutered in December 2025, I don’t have any known allergies or food sensitivities, and it’s still unclear whether I’ll need long-term treatment in the future — that will depend on how I continue to respond to care.
I’ll be honest — I’m not a dog who trusts instantly. When I first meet people, I can be wary and need time to feel safe. In the past, I’ve shown aggression, especially around people I didn’t know, vets, or when someone came close to me while I was eating. But I’ve been working with a trainer, and I’ve made huge improvements.
Now, I’m curious about people, especially when they’re nearby. I trust my trainer deeply, respond well to commands from people I trust, and I’m learning that new humans don’t always mean danger. Calm, patient approaches help me feel secure.
Once I feel safe, I can be very loving. I enjoy gentle affection, belly rubs, and showing love by asking to play or rolling onto my back. I sleep a lot, but I also have moments where I want attention and interaction.
I’m curious and friendly with other dogs, especially on walks, where I show interest in playing and making friends. I could live as an only dog if my humans give me time, attention, and continue my training — or possibly with one or two calm dogs.
As for cats, I currently bark at them through the windows of my foster home. I haven’t had direct interaction with cats, so it’s unknown whether I could live with them.
Because of my sensitivities and need for calm handling, I would only be suitable for a home with older teenage children.
I love:
-
Playing fetch with a ball
-
Napping
-
Sleeping on my favorite pillow outside my doghouse
-
Calm routines
I’m sensitive to loud noises like fireworks and thunder, and I don’t like being startled. Sudden touch without warning can scare me and cause a negative reaction, so I need a home that understands my boundaries and communicates gently with me.
I enjoy affection when it’s offered calmly, and I like attention — but I can also be left alone when needed.
I’m a dog who has been through a lot, and I need a patient, experienced, and calm home that will continue my training and respect my limits. In return, I offer loyalty, curiosity, quiet companionship, and a heart that’s learning how to trust again.
I may not be the easiest dog — but I am worth it.
