Bowie (08/2019), Male

Hi, I'm Bowie!

I should tell you upfront that I can't hear you. I'm deaf. So if you walk into a room and I don't react, it's not because I'm ignoring you — I genuinely have no idea you're there yet. But the moment I see you? I will meow very loudly and come straight to you. I've been told my volume is impressive for a cat who can't hear himself. I choose to take that as a compliment.

I was born on August 5th, 2019, and I had a good life with a family in Athens for years. Then I fell from a balcony. My hind legs don't work anymore, and some other things don't work the way they should either — my bladder needs to be expressed a few times a day by a human I trust, I can't control when I go to the bathroom, and I have a drag wound from the way my pelvis sits when I move around that needs cream to stay on top of. I get UTIs sometimes because of my bladder situation. I eat gastrointestinal food because my stomach is sensitive and that's what keeps things stable — no treats, no variety, just my gastro food and that's fine by me as long as there's enough of it.

My family found somewhere for me to, and now I'm here, on my floor bed, waiting for what comes next.

Here is what I need you to know about who I actually am: I am affectionate, confident, and extremely talkative. I love people. I love being petted. I love food possibly more than I love anything else. I am laid back about most things in life — I sleep a lot, I don't need to climb or jump or chase things — but when it comes to getting attention from the humans around me, I have strong feelings and I express them loudly.

I don't get along well with other cats. I've made this fairly clear here at the shelter and I'd rather be someone's only cat. I haven't been tested with children but I'm gentle and confident and I think I'd be fine with the right kids.

What I'm looking for is simple: someone who isn't afraid of my care needs, who has steady hands and a patient heart, and who wants a cat that will talk to them every single day. I can't run to greet you the way I used to. But I will drag myself across the room to get to you, which honestly says more.
