S.M.A.R.T. Yards

S.M.A.R.T. Yards are community yards that our Let´s be S.M.A.R.T. organization is helping set up throughout local communities and with their agreement.  Our yards help promote social responsibility toward our stray animal population and help share in the care for the same.

Who benefit from the S.M.A.R.T. Yards

Designed primarily for the benefit of the stray population, the S.M.A.R.T. Yards provide protectionaccess to daily food and water and medical care when needed. The S.M.A.R.T. Yards help keep the stray population healthier and well taken care of.

The local community will benefit equally as the S.M.A.R.T. Yards keep the stray population under control and they keep the streets more free from strays (which eventually they can be harmed). In addition, cats naturally help with pest control (mice and roaches). Designing a fixed frame for taking care of the strays within the S.M.A.R.T. Yards will get local communities united towards a common goal.

Moreover, sterilizing and micro chipping the strays in the S.M.A.R.T. Yards provide the community with the awareness of the place, scope and current situation of the strays group.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • when the community/private building agrees to have a S.M.A.R.T. Yard set up (we will help to provide the legal details necessary in some cases if applicable), our organization will provide a proper shelter in the form of a solid wooden outdoor rated cat/dog house (labeled with the S.M.A.R.T. Yard logo).

  • The community will agree to supply pet food and fresh water on daily basis as a part of the joint effort and a social responsibility.

  • Our Let's be S.M.A.R.T. team will help with coordination of sterilizations, micro chipping and medical care, if necessary. All costs related to food supply, sterilizations, micro chipping and medical attendance will be covered by each community. It is important to remember that the S.M.A.R.T. Yards should be kept neat and tidy in order to respect all residents of the community.

Great progress and collaboration with the local municipalities for helping our community cats!

Let's be S.M.A.R.T. Greece campaign collaborated in September 2021 with our local mayors to ensure our impact within the community benefits as many cats as possible.

Our team of staff and volunteers met with the Vice Mayor of Anavisos, Patsiaouras Ilias, the Mayor of Saronikou, Petros Filipou, the Vice Mayor of Kalivia, Vasilis Mpoutsis, the Vice Mayor of Saronida, Xaralampos Galanis, and the President of Community Council of Palea Fokea, Papoutsis Nasos. We managed to install a total of 5 large S.M.A.R.T. Yards, where cats can rest safely and take shelter, as well as 7 protected feeding stations that will continuously be filled with fresh food and water by the dedicated community volunteers.

Over the coming months we aim to install another 5 large SMART Yards to offer warmth and protection during the winter, as well as shade in the summer!

It is great to see the care and concern for our loving stray cats by our Local Officials and it strives to create a better environment for the cats and the people by having organized feeding areas. We also provided flyers in both Greek and English about how to manage and maintain the feeding stations along with some DO’s and DON’T tips!
